martyrology
A COLLABORATIVE WORK WITH
MATTHEW TOME
1998
Formed part of the exhibition, A Little Respect
Regional Galleries of Australia Tour, 1999 - 2001
The second in the cycle of collaborative projects with Matthew Tome, Martyrology aims to rework the common symbolic language of the Christian martyrs via a multi-part series of prints, worked across a diverse range of mediums, from the traditional (etching, woodcut, screenprint and lithography) to less conventional methods like burning and drilling. The images cover a full sheet of a standard sheet of paper (75 x 56 cm) and use a range of paper types and colours. They use those same images and symbols that have been passed down for generations and restate them with a contemporary edge, using the techniques of modern printmaking. Each print was developed with the aim of uniting imagery, media and format with historical narrative.
